A Kit-Kat and a chit-chat on R U OK? Day
September 8 was R U OK Day, an annual event that encourages people to check in on friends, family and work colleagues and ask R U OK?
September 30, 2022

Staff at Inland Rail sites and offices attended events, listened to talks and grabbed a cuppa with work mates in support of mental wellbeing.
This year’s theme ‘no qualifications needed’ served as a reminder that 1 in 4 Australians think it is the role of a specialist to ask the question, are you ok? Yet, every year, one in five of us will experience mental illness, so we need to keep asking this question of each other every day.
R U OK Day coincides with the charity Mates in Construction’s Fly the Flag Day. Mates in Construction is a charity Founded in 2008, Mates in Construction aims to reduce the high level of suicide among Australian construction workers through community development programs on construction sites and supporting workers in need through case management and a 24/7 help line.
Our construction contractor Trans4m Rail also recognised R U OK Day with staff goodie bags containing snacks and resources on where to seek help or refer a mate. Team members were encouraged to take a break, share a Kit-Kat and have a “chit chat”, not just on one day a year, but every day it may be required.
