Ground investigation, survey works, Wandong, 12 August – 22 September 2024

Specialist contractors will undertake site surveys and investigation works at various locations in and around Wandong.

Overnight low impact works within the rail corridor from:

  • 10pm Friday, 30 August to 4am Monday, 2 September
  • 6am Saturday, 14 September to 6pm Monday, 16 September.

Work being done

Activities will include:

  • Surveying the railway track, road and pavement levels at multiple locations.
  • Surveys may also be required at a small number of private properties. Impacted property owners will be contacted regarding access prior to works
  • Locating and mapping underground services using non-destructive digging (NDD)
  • Installing temporary vehicle traffic counting cameras to collect traffic movement data at the Broadford-Wandong Road bridge intersections with Rail Street and Epping-Kilmore Road
  • Borehole drilling using a small truck mounted drill rig to take soil samples for testing and assessment. Once the works are complete at each location the hole will be filled
  • Establishing a temporary site at Wandong Station car park Approximately 30 car spaces will temporarily be unavailable.

During this time pedestrians and drivers are asked to take care and observe all traffic management instructions and signage.

What can I expect?

  • Traffic management will be in place along Rail Street, Epping-Kilmore and Broadford-Wandong roads. At times traffic will be reduced to a single lane for short periods
  • A section of Rail Street will temporarily be closed for one day, with a short detour in place. Access via Wandong-Broadford Road to and from Rail Street will be maintained. Please observe all traffic management instructions and signage
  • Reduced speed limits of 40km/h near works
  • Workers using machinery, equipment, hand tools and service vehicles operating at each site
  • Nearby residents may hear some noise during daylight hours and can expect some additional construction workers and vehicles in the area
  • Reduced parking at Wandong Station.

Cancellation of works

Works can sometimes be cancelled at short notice depending on weather and other factors. Should this occur, works will be rescheduled.

Machinery used

Small truck mounted drill rig, elevated work platform, NDD truck, support vehicles, workers using hand tools and survey equipment, traffic management equipment and signage.
