About the opportunity

As the Engineering Manager – Hydrology and Hydraulics you will be leading and supporting a team of Design Managers and Subject Matter Experts to deliver the Flood Impact Framework across Northern New South Wales and Queensland. You will provide critical technical leadership, supports design reviews, and ensures coordinated engineering input throughout the project lifecycle specifically for all hydrology and hydraulic aspects. You’ll play a key role in integrating technical solutions within a complex stakeholder environment and making timely decisions to optimise hydrological and flood-related design outcomes.

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Manage hydrology & hydraulic design works undertaken by different contractors and service providers.
  • Set up, implement and maintain Inland Rail’s Flood Impact Framework for Northern NSW and QLD scope that satisfy the Conditions of approval from the Regulator.
  • Collaborate across the business and delivery programs to optimise the design and construction ensuring the IRPL program successful executes objectives, lesson learned and value for money proposition, in relation to the IRPL Flood Impact Framework.
  • Monitor and take appropriate corrective actions to maintain design scope, schedule and budget goals while also reporting on progress and performance against agreed deliverables, safety, quality, and performance standards to ensure quality of outcomes, cost effectiveness, appropriate risk management and seamless integration with other streams.
  • Support the Delivery Team to coordinate all interface works that require Stakeholder Engagement, Property and Environment team involvement.
  • Represent IRPL with external stakeholders and regulator
  • Coordinate design and assurance requirements to obtain necessary approvals in line with the Flood Impact Framework.

About You

To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  • Degree in engineering or equivalent from a recognised institution.
  • Competence certification including CPEng, RPEQ and RIW (or willingly to obtain)
  • Experience in the management and detailed coordination of design work for major rail infrastructure projects, and in particular a strong focus with hydrology and hydraulic design.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to negotiate and influence outcomes.
  • The ability to work successfully across a diverse stakeholder group including the private sector, public sector, special interest groups, and Federal Government sectors.
  • Experience with managing interdisciplinary design, working with stakeholder engagement teams, and liaising with property teams.
  • High level conceptual and analytical skills, with a demonstrated ability to analyse complex issues.
  • An understanding of railway design and construction standards.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a challenging and dynamic work environment.
  • Driver’s license – class C

Desirable Selection Criteria

  • Familiarity with systems engineering and systems assurance of rail infrastructure projects.
  • Australian Standards for track infrastructure including the railway National Code of Practice.
