The Inland Rail Program is a 1600km rail infrastructure project stretching from Brisbane to Melbourne incorporating new and existing rail track. The program includes the upgrading of existing standard gauge track, the enhancement of existing standard gauge track to cater for double stacking and the construction of new standard gauge links comprising of viaducts, tunnels, rail track, crossings and bridges. About the opportunity

As the Environment Manager – Program at Inland Rail, you will build, manage and maintain relationships with key environmental stakeholders internally and externally across the Inland Rail program.

Based in either the Sydney or Brisbane CBD offices, you will report directly to the Head of Environment and ensure the implementation of environmental compliance across the IR program. Additionally, you will lead a team of environmental professionals to oversee the IR Environmental Management System (EMS) and provide support throughout the procurement, detailed design, and construction phases.

Additional key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead a team to prepare and contribute technical advice for the assessment of environmental compliance frameworks and the development and implementation of compliance planning, strategies, documents, plans and procedures.
  • Lead the development and implementation of monthly key environmental stakeholder forums to share project updates, learning and issues between IRPL, ARTC, our delivery partners and external key stakeholders (where relevant) across the alignment.
  • Manage the implementation and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Provide advice and recommend solutions on environmental issues to the Head of Environment and Construction Teams.
  • Ensure all environmental event notifications are completed in a timely manner.

About you

To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or an environmentally related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience with developing and maintaining relationships with environmental regulators.
  • Experience in managing and supporting a team in complex environment issues with a high profile in the community
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant State (QLD and NSW) and Federal environmental legislation including project approval process.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
