About Inland Rail

The Inland Rail Program is a 1600km rail infrastructure project stretching from Brisbane to Melbourne incorporating new and existing rail track. The program includes the upgrading of existing standard gauge track, the enhancement of existing standard gauge track to cater for double stacking and the construction of new standard gauge links comprising of viaducts, tunnels, rail track, crossings and bridges. About the opportunity

As the Head of Environment, you will provide strategic support and advice to deliver on our commitment to environmental excellence in alignment with our values and priorities. Overseeing a diverse environmental function, you will manage key areas including approvals, compliance, biodiversity offsets, noise and vibration, and the Environmental Management System (EMS).

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead a high-performing team to embed a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Secure and manage necessary environmental approvals, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Develop fit-for-purpose environmental systems and frameworks aligned with legal and contemporary practices.
  • Manage relationships with regulatory bodies, fostering trust and promoting best practices.
  • Oversee environmental risk management, ensuring proactive identification and resolution of issues.
  • Drive integration of environmental considerations into project schedules and strategic outcomes.
  • Build awareness and culture of environmental accountability across the organisation through education and leadership.

About you

You are a visible leader with deep expertise in environmental management, strategic approvals, and compliance. You excel in stakeholder engagement, regulatory relationship building, and innovative problem-solving to deliver sustainable outcomes.

Additionally you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience in environmental compliance management throughout the development of Environmental Impact Statements, obtaining secondary and tertiary approvals, implementation of approvals throughout Construction and handover to Operations.
  • Experience in Construction Contractor management to ensure environmental compliance with relevant environmental approvals and legislation.
  • Strong experience and a proven track record in the field of environmental compliance with large construction projects
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications - A bachelor’s degree in Science or related field, Masters in Science or related field
  • Current driver’s licence and a willingness to travel on short business trips as needs require
