The Inland Rail Program is a 1600km rail infrastructure project stretching from Brisbane to Melbourne incorporating new and existing rail track. The program includes the upgrading of existing standard gauge track, the enhancement of existing standard gauge track to cater for double stacking and the construction of new standard gauge links comprising of viaducts, tunnels, rail track, crossings and bridges. About the opportunity

As the Lead Commercial (Senior Contracts Administrator) for Inland Rail, you will play a key role in managing budgets, assessing variations and claims, overseeing Contract Administrators, and handling contractual correspondence. You’ll be part of a collaborative and supportive team, reporting to the Commercial Manager and partnering with the project delivery team to resolve contractual matters while ensuring adherence to established systems, procedures, and compliance standards.

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Verify and process progress claims and issue of payment certificates in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Prepare commercially acceptable contractual documents on approved templates and assist with procurement of packages where required.
  • Day to day management of Contract Administrator(s) ensuring contracts are managed in accordance with IRPL policies and procedures.
  • Aid in dispute resolution seeking assistance from the Commercial Manager or Legal Counsel where required.
  • Ensure progress claims and payment certificates accurately reflect work undertaken and comply with contractual requirements.
  • Monitor and collaborate with contractors in conjunction with the commercial and project delivery teams.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation and correspondence and distribute where appropriate in a timely manner.

About You

To succeed as a Senior Contracts Administrator, you will need strong technical skills in contract management, budget control, and claims assessment, combined with key soft skills such as collaboration, clear communication, leadership, problem-solving, attention to detail, and adaptability. These abilities will enable you to effectively manage teams, resolve contractual issues, and ensure successful project delivery.

To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience and understanding of Contract Administration within the construction industry.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications.
  • Proficient with sophisticated ERP’s such as PRISM.
  • Proven ability to manage, influence, and negotiate effectively with contractors and suppliers to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Successfully led and managed teams to achieve project or organisational objectives, including providing guidance, mentoring, and fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail coupled with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, fostering partnerships and teamwork to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Out of the box thinking with excellent initiative.
