Director Health, Safety & Environment, Steve Jones said the Inland Rail Skills Academy helps communities prepare for future opportunities.
“Inland Rail is about delivering real and lasting opportunities for regional communities,” Mr Jones said.
“While we’re expecting to generate more than 21,500 direct and indirect jobs during Inland Rail’s construction, we’re also working to prepare communities for other project opportunities and helping upskill the local workforce.”
Event attendees were given an overview of Inland Rail, typical supply opportunities and the process for tendering, as well as a snapshot of the local labour market and information about federal support available to businesses that take on apprentices and trainees.
“The event was a great opportunity for local businesses to meet with employment service providers and other stakeholders in the region to make connections and grow their workforce,” Mr Jones said.
Mr Jones said opportunities will continue well into the future.
“We’re providing opportunities for local communities and businesses to participate in and benefit from the project, as well as develop skills and resources which will contribute to regional sustainability and prosperity,” he said.
“The Inland Rail Skills Academy runs a program of business capability events, webinars and mentoring opportunities to help equip businesses with the skills and resources to compete for Inland Rail contracts and enhance their future capabilities.”
