Day and night works, Hamilton Street, Broadford, 21 – 24 March 2025

Day and night works will be undertaken in and around Hamilton Street, Broadford between 21 and 24 March, 2025. These works will occur during a track possession and are required ahead of construction starting on a new bridge later this year.

Work being done

  • Underground bore works for utilities crossing the rail corridor between Dairy Lane and Ferguson Street
  • Installation of delineation fencing within the rail corridor and along Dairy Lane
  • Approved tree and vegetation removal within the rail corridor along Dairy Lane and Hamilton Street
  • Surveys to locate, map and understand the ground conditions in and around Hamilton Street precinct
  • Building and compressing a hardstand to provide a firm and solid surface at the Hamilton Street site compound (51 Ferguson Street)
  • Removal of old signalling infrastructure including overhead wires on a signalling pole within the rail corridor between the Hamilton Street bridge and Powlett Street.

What can I expect?

  • Works will occur between 5am Saturday 22 March and 7pm Monday 24 March
  • Dairy Lane will be temporarily close between 9am Friday 21 March and 5pm Monday 24 March, to safely facilitate the tree removal, underground boring and investigation works
  • Restricted access to businesses using Dairy Lane
  • Hamilton Street bridge will be reduced to single lane with the shuttle-flow from 22-24 March
  • Nearby bridges at Short Street and Marchbanks Road will also be reduced to single lane shuttle-flow during this time
  • Additional truck movements with traffic management in place along Dairy Lane, Hamilton, Ferguson and High streets
  • Access to residential properties will be maintained
  • Reduced speed limits of 40km/h near works
  • Generator-powered lighting towers
  • Periods of high levels of noise and dust. Nearby residents may notice some vibration.

Machinery used

Non-destructive digging truck, generators, light towers, watercarts, small truck mounted drill rig, excavators, tipper trucks, cranes, support vehicles, compaction rollers, loaders, graders, workers using hand tools and survey equipment, traffic management equipment and signage.

How we're managing impacts

  • Traffic management and reduced road speeds
  • Coordinating with businesses accessing Dairy Lane
  • Water carts will be used to reduce dust
  • Where possible, lights will be directed away from residential properties and noise reduction mats will be placed around generators
  • An arborist will assess all trees removed
  • All areas will be inspected by a qualified wildlife handler for wildlife before tree removal works commence. If fauna is encountered, works will cease until a wildlife handler has safely relocated the animal.

Track possession – line closure

A track possession is when the rail line is closed to trains to allow workers to safely carry out construction, upgrade or maintenance works. For passenger service changes visit, vline.com.au or transportnsw.info

Cancellation of works

Works can sometimes be cancelled at short notice depending on weather and other factors. Should this occur, works will be rescheduled.
