Day and night works, Short Street, Broadford, 22 – 24 March 2025

Day and night works will be undertaken near Short Street, Broadford between 22 and 24 March 2025. These works will occur during a track possession and include excavation within the rail corridor between Short and Jamieson streets to create space for an access track. This is required ahead of track lowering and realignment works under Short Street bridge.

Work being done

  • Excavating the rail corridor batter and installation of delineation fencing between Short and Jamieson streets
  • Approved tree and vegetation removal within the rail corridor
  • Surveys to locate, map and understand the ground conditions in and around Short Street precinct, including roads along Short, Rupert and Jamieson streets
  • Building and compressing a hardstand to provide a firm and solid surface at the Jamieson Street rail access point, Rupert Reserve and Short Street site compounds.

What can I expect?

  • Round-the-clock works between 5am Saturday 22 March and 7pm Monday 24 March for ground excavation and delineation fencing in the rail corridor
  • Works between 6am-8pm for construction to build a hardstand, surveys and approved tree and vegetation removal
  • Short Street bridge will be reduced to a single lane with shuttle-flow from 22-24 March
  • Nearby bridges at Hamilton Street and Marchbanks Road will also be reduced to single lane with shuttle-flow during this time
  • Additional truck movements along Jamieson Street
  • Traffic management along Short, Rupert, Sutherland and Jamieson streets
  • Access to residential properties will be maintained
  • Reduced speed limits of 40km/h near works
  • Generator-powered lighting towers
  • Periods of high levels of noise and dust. Nearby residents may notice some vibration.

Machinery used

Non-destructive digging truck, generators, light towers, watercarts, small truck mounted drill rig, excavators, tipper trucks, cranes, support vehicles, compaction rollers, loaders, graders, workers using hand tools and survey equipment, traffic management equipment and signage.

How we're managing impacts

  • Traffic management and reduced road speeds
  • Water carts will be used to reduce dust impacts
  • Where possible, lights will be positioned away from residential properties and noise reduction mats will be placed around generators
  • An arborist will assess all trees
  • All areas will be inspected by a qualified wildlife handler for wildlife before tree removal works commence. If fauna is encountered, works will cease until the wildlife handler has safely relocated the animal.

Track possession – line closure

A track possession is when the rail line is closed to trains to allow workers to safely carry out construction, upgrade or maintenance works. For passenger service changes visit, vline.com.au or transportnsw.info

Cancellation of works

Works can sometimes be cancelled at short notice depending on weather and other factors. Should this occur, works will be rescheduled.
