Docker Street footbridge removal and pedestrian underpass opening, Wangaratta Station Precinct, March 2025
Inland Rail contractors will undertake day and night works during a track possession, between 6am Saturday 22 March and 6pm Monday 24 March, to remove the Docker Street footbridge in Wangaratta. Pedestrian access across the station precinct will be via the new pedestrian underpass, which will open on 21 March.
Work being done
During the track possession other works will include drainage excavations near the Docker Street footbridge area, landscaping within the station precinct and asphalting of the new platform.
Works following the possession from 25 March to 31 March will include landscaping, lift shaft and platform installation and underground utility works.
What can I expect?
- Round-the-clock works between 6am Saturday 22 March and 6pm Monday 24 March
- Works 6am-7pm Monday to Sunday between 25-31 March
- Station pedestrian underpass opened from 21 March. Please see the new pedestrian map.
- Construction machinery, equipment, trucks and other vehicles accessing work sites
- Nearby residents can expect some noise during works
- Ground excavation in various locations
- Approved vegetation removal within the project area.
Track possession – line closure
A track possession is when the rail line is closed to trains to allow workers to safely carry out construction, upgrade or maintenance works. For passenger service changes visit, vline.com.au or transportnsw.info
Machinery used
Heavy and light vehicles including trucks, light towers, cranes, tipper trucks, loaders, excavators, elevated work platforms. High-rail plant including excavator and dump trucks will be used within the work areas. Hand tools including jackhammers, saws and grinders will also be used.
How we're managing impacts
- Traffic management will be in place to ensure safe access for all road users and pedestrians
- Directing light towers away from residential properties
- Environmental controls in place, including live monitoring of noise, dust and vibration.
