Overview of Surveys

Regular woodland bird monitoring, including threatened species, is required as part of the Illabo to Stockinbingal section’s environmental conditions of approval.

Monitoring will occur mostly within road reserves at distances up to 5km from the Inland Rail alignment, while some monitoring will also be conducted on privately-owned land, subject to landowner approval.

This activity will occur through to the end of February 2025 between dawn and dusk when bird species are most active. Survey locations will be visited on multiple occasions to maximise sighting opportunities.

Bird survey locations

Bird monitoring will occur in one-hectare patches within road reserves near the following locations:

  • Olympic Highway – near Billabong Creek, Walbridge Lane and just east of Bethungra
  • Burley Griffin Way – various sites between 1km and 8km west of Stockinbingal
  • Hibernia Street (passing through Stockinbingal) – near intersections with Hoskins and Ellwood Streets
  • Old Sydney Road between Warrens Lane and Bethungra
  • Ironbong Road
  • Dirnaseer Road – various sites up to 5km from intersection with Ironbong Road
  • Dudauman Lane.

What can I expect?

There will be no traffic disruptions during this period as vehicles will be parked clear of road traffic.

Activity will be kept to a minimum to limit disruption to habitats and private access and vehicles will be parked in already disturbed areas.

Where access to some private properties is sought, property owners will be contacted in advance for agreed access arrangements.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation while this monitoring is conducted.
