Tumba Road, North Star temporary traffic changes
From 1 June 2022, our contractor Trans4m Rail will temporarily close Tumba Road to traffic to enable level crossing and drainage works. Tumba Road will reopen from July, however additional level crossing upgrade works will continue in the area until October 2022.
Work being done
Traffic detour
Tumba Road is classified as a no through road. As such, the temporary closure will not have a detour. Any local road users not consulted on alternative routes are encouraged to contact Trans4m Rail on the below details.
For public safety, road users should observe all traffic control instructions, and road closure signage.
Works will involve:
- Installation of pre-cast items
- Rail removal and placement
- Flash butt welding and grinding
- Installation of traffic control measures.
What can I expect
- Hi-rail vehicles (rolling stock) and a tamping machine undertaking rail works
- Construction machinery and equipment operating on site adjacent to live traffic along Tumba Road
- Delivery of materials and equipment to site
- Some of these works will be noisy and mitigation measures will be in place.

- Hi-rail vehicles including a hi-rail excavator (rolling stock)
- mobile flash butt welder
- trucks
will be used within the construction impact zone.
How we’re managing impacts
- Traffic controls will be in place, where required, and
- Road closure signage
- Water carts will be on site to wet down areas to assist in managing dust.
