Narrabri geotechnical investigations
From October 2023 to late January 2024, we will undertake Geotechnical Investigations (GI) to help us understand ground conditions and assist in refining the project design.
Work being done
Inland Rail engineers and ecologists will accompany crews from our GI contractor Macquarie Geotech to locations along the Inland Rail project alignment in Narrabri.
Work will include:
- clearing of isolated areas to access geotechnical investigation locations
- ground condition investigations.
Investigation locations may change but will be undertaken within the approved project boundary of the Narromine to Narrabri project and within private property.
What if work is postponed?
Work can sometimes be postponed at short notice due to weather, mechanical breakdowns, and other factors. Should this occur, we will inform the wider community in advance of when work will recommence.
Notification will only happen if the postponement is longer than 2 weeks.
What can I expect?
- changed traffic conditions and reduced speed limits where work is near public roads
- site supervision vehicles, mobile machinery, drill rigs and equipment operating onsite or accessing work sites
- increased vehicle movements with site vehicles and support vehicles accessing work sites
- nearby residents may experience some daytime noise
- at locations where activities such as drilling and test excavations will disturb the ground surface, bore holes and test pits will be backfilled at the completion of work or at the end of each shift.
Machinery used
- track mounted drill rigs,
- non-destructive digging machinery,
- small digging equipment,
- support vehicles,
- traffic management equipment and signage.
