We are upgrading level crossings between Parkes and Narromine as part of our work to build Inland Rail. Sometimes this requires the closure of public roads.

No. 88: Brolgan Road, Parkes, level crossing upgrade and temporary road closure

Snapshot

Date

December 2024

Local Government Area

We’re working on upgrading the level crossing at Brolgan Road, Parkes.

This requires a 48-hour closure of Brolgan Road at the level crossing, between Coopers Road and Hartigan Avenue.

Location of works

Brolgan Road, Parkes

Timing of works

  • Full road closure for 48 hours from: 6pm Saturday 14 March to 6pm Monday 16 March 2020.
  • Our working hours: 8am Saturday 14 March 2020 until 6pm Monday 16 March 2020.
  • A speed reduction to 40km/h will be in place several hundred metres on either side of the current level crossing on Brolgan Road (see map) for the safety of all road users, until the works are completed.
  • Traffic control devices will be placed on either end of the works, and on the detour via Coopers Road, London Road and Hartigan Avenue, to manage traffic safely.
  • Following the temporary closure, Brolgan Road will remain a single lane until mid-April 2020, with traffic controls in place to assist road users, while both sides of the road are upgraded.

What we’re doing

  • Removing existing rail and sleepers
  • Building road formations
  • Constructing level crossing (concrete treatment)
  • Installing new gravel (ballast), sleepers and rail, and then tamp (adjust) rail into place
  • Installing fences and permanent signage

What to expect

  • Traffic control devices including traffic lights will be used during the works for safety.
  • During the work there will be heavy vehicles travelling to and from the work site.
  • Light towers and machinery will be operating on a 24-hour basis during the 48-hour closure.
  • We will use noise-minimising measures out of hours, such as non-tonal alarms and switching off equipment that’s not in use for extended periods.
