Billy Hughes bridge signalling removal works

Between June to September 2023, contractors will undertake works to remove signalling and communication cables in the vicinity of Billy Hughes Bridge.

Work being done

These works have been assessed through a Review of Environmental Factors under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.

We want to reassure residents that starting these works now does not mean approval has been given for major construction to begin on the Albury to Illabo section.

They will however enable major construction to start more efficiently once approvals are issued.

Overview of early works

  • Removal of approximately 250m of signalling and communications cable in the vicinity of Billy Hughes Bridge.
  • Compacting holes from the pole locations and backfilling, if required, to restore ground condition.
  • All works will take place within the rail corridor.

When are works occurring?

Activity is expected to commence mid-June 2023 and be completed by late September 2023.

What can I expect

  • Construction machinery and equipment operating on site.
  • Delivery of materials and equipment to site.

Sites access roads used
Contractors will access the work sites from Wagga Road and Tynan Road.

  • T high rail excavator,
  • elevated working platform with towbar trailer,
  • tandom box trailer,
  • light vehicles (ute),
  • semi-trailer,
  • rail saw,
  • magnetic drill press.
