Construction progress at Marchbanks Road bridge in Broadford.
Since mid-August, crews have successfully realigned the existing on-ramp and transformed the site in preparation for the new bridge.
The next major construction phase will take place from Saturday 12 September to Tuesday 15 September, when the old bridge is demolished and four massive girders installed to form the backbone of the new structure.
The new Marchbanks Road bridge is being built to provide sufficient clearance for double-stacked freight trains. Once complete, it will stand 3.7 metres higher and be 11 metres wider than the existing bridge.
Marchbanks Road bridge will remain closed until mid-October with a detour in place via the Hume Freeway Clonbinane interchange. Please allow an additional 15 to 20 minutes travel time. When the new bridge opens, single-lane shuttle flow will be in place until works are complete.
We understand our works are impacting local residents and we appreciate the Broadford community’s ongoing patience and support.
Works can sometimes be delayed due to weather and other factors. We will keep the community informed if this occurs.
