Stockinbingal to Parkes Works

The Stockinbingal to Parkes section was completed in January 2026, marking the third of 12 Inland Rail sections to become fully operational.

Major construction commenced in September 2023 and involved enhancements at specific sites along the existing 170.3 km rail corridor.

Works completed include:

Daroobalgie:
A new 2.2km crossing loop has been constructed on the eastern side of the existing track. Culverts were replaced and extended to reduce flooding risk on neighbouring land. The Daroobalgie Road level crossing was upgraded to an active crossing.

Wyndham Avenue:
The rail track was lowered beneath the Wyndham Avenue road bridge, increasing vertical clearance to accommodate double-stacked freight trains.

Forbes Station:
The station awning was trimmed by approximately 300mm. The main line was slewed up to 540mm over a 500m stretch and the loop track was slewed by 140m to improve alignment.

Lachlan River Bridge:
The bridge was modified to increase vertical clearance by removing minimum bracing and installing a non-intrusive brace design to reinforce the existing structure.

Milvale rail yard:
Clearance works included removing a redundant wire and associated bracket, with minimal impact on heritage values.

Quandialla rail yard:
Redundant pipework (standpipe) was removed from a water tank adjacent to the track.

Bribbaree rail yard:
Track slewed up to 300mm over approximately 940m, including formation and drainage improvements.

Caragabal rail yard:
Track slewed up to 30mm over approximately 250m.

Wirrinya rail yard:
Track slewed up to 350mm over approximately 520m.

Improving level crossing safety

We delivered a safer experience for motorists and trains using the Daroobalgie Road level crossing. Community feedback resulted in an upgrade to the level crossing to be active with boom gates, bells and lights.
