Daroobalgie construction work hours from August 2024

Inland Rail will be adjusting its work hours to include Saturdays and Sundays at the Daroobalgie level crossing, effective from 3 August, 2024.

Snapshot

Date

August 2024 - December 2024

Working hours

From 3 August 2024, construction works will move to a 2:1 roster – 14 days straight of works followed by a seven-day break.

The new hours will include Monday to Sundays, 7am – 6pm, when the site is ‘rostered on’.

Location

Daroobalgie rail corridor

Town
  • Daroobalgie
Local Government Area
  • Forbes Shire Council

Why is the roster changing?

The change in roster enables work to be completed faster, which reduces the long-term impact on our neighbours by approximately 3 months. This will also reduce the impact on the operating rail line.

Regular notifications advising of key work dates and construction updates will be provided to our neighbours.

Key Roster Dates

Work dates for Daroobalgie;

  • 1 August – commencement of 2:1 roster (14 days of works)
  • 15 August – completion of first swing (no work for seven days)
  • 22 August – start of next swing (14 days of works)
  • 3 September – completion of second swing (no work for seven days)

This schedule will continue until project completion, which is expected to be late 2025, with the exception of a rail possession scheduled in for the 14-16 September.

Works to be undertaken

Construction work will continue as normal including some noisy works:

  • Clearing & grubbing / Topsoil Removal
  • Earthworks
  • Track works
  • Drainage, pit and pipe works
  • Signaling works

Vehicle movements

During the works, vehicle movements will be to and from site as well as on site to facilitate earthworks.

Traffic controllers will be available to direct traffic to and from site where needed.

What can I expect?

  • Heavy vehicle movements, earth-moving activities, track works
  • Some of these works will be noisy. You may hear truck engines and engine noise from machines.
  • Use of non-tonal reversing alarms on all equipment and turning off equipment when not in use.
  • Instructing workers to keep noise to a minimum and being respectful of our neighbours.

Machinery used

Equipment used for work includes but is not limited to hand tools including power saws, excavators, loaders, graders, rollers, moxy trucks, truck and dogs, vibratory rollers, tamper, regulator, back hoes, cranes, vacuum trucks heavy and light vehicles, generators, lighting towers and other minor plant.

How we're managing impacts

To minimise noise impacts to you during these works the following measures will be undertaken:

  • Respite periods will apply to noisy works (e.g. noisy equipment such as saw cutting will be undertaken in block of no more than 3 hours with at least 1 hour of respite between each block of work).
  • Adhering to the compliance conditions as defined in the Environment Protection Licence (EPL).
  • Orientating equipment away from noise-sensitive receivers where possible.
  • No unnecessary shouting or loud stereos/radios on site.
  • Communication between workers and plant operators using UHF radios and hand signals.
  • Where practicable, substitution using alternative low noise plant and equipment.
  • When applicable, implement mitigation measures to address noise disturbances.
  • All vehicles to be switched off when not in use.
  • When high generating works are occurring unattended noise monitoring can be undertaken at closest receivers with the use of environmental monitoring software (SiteHive).
