Elouera Special School “new recruits” on site

The visit followed a previous personal protective equipment (PPE) activity at the school where the students experienced “getting ready for work” on a construction site.

The visit began with morning tea in the crib room, where muffins and juice provided a taste of workplace life before the group headed out for their site tour.

Students quickly transformed into construction workers, donning hard hats, safety glasses and high‑visibility vests.

Safety Team member Gary Doohan appointed a “leading hand” from the group, who proudly helped guide the new recruits on a walk to view some of the project’s impressive earthmoving machinery.

The machinery certainly put on a show. A Moxy dumper demonstrated its capabilities, with the operator raising the hoist in an impressive display of movement and precision. Not to be outdone, a D14 grader rolled into position before scarifying and grading the area. A water cart followed, preparing the ground before a vibrating roller “shook up” the group!

The students were excited throughout the visit, chatting about how impressive the machines were and sharing how much they were enjoying the day. The John Holland and Inland Rail teams were equally delighted to help create such special memories for their young visitors.
