First Nations artworks on display at ARTC Inland Rail Wagga Wagga office
The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) Inland Rail Southern New South Wales team are proud to display three stunning First Nations artworks created by the Riverina community.
June 7, 2023
Wiradjuri Elder Aunty Cheryl Penrith and Artist Luke Penrith presented the three artworks to the ARTC Inland Rail team at their Wagga Wagga office.
The three pieces were a community effort, designed at the NAIDOC Week Basketball Gala Day last year in Wagga Wagga.
Around one hundred participants were involved in the arts and crafts workshops throughout the day, including young children, older students, and Elders helping out on on the murals.
The three artworks are connected and represent the themes of “Gathering”, “Belonging”, and “Connection”.
Luke Penrith, Artist and Owner of Luke Penrith Arts & Designs, said:
‘These artworks represent three elements that are so important to First Nations people across the country.
‘Together they share a message: come, gather, be respectful, and connect to the oldest living culture in the world’.
Natalie Mogg, Inland Rail First Nations Engagement Advisor, said:
‘It is an honour to be able to display these beautiful artworks in our Wagga Wagga office, and to know they were created by the local community is extra special.
‘We are proud to work in partnership with First Nations communities at Inland Rail. This week is National Reconciliation Week, which is an important time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories and take steps toward reconciliation’.
