First Works to start in Wagga Wagga

Works on the Albury to Illabo section of Inland Rail will begin in Wagga Wagga this week with the establishment of a site compound located alongside the rail corridor at the intersection of Macleay and Railway Street.

From 7am Monday 6 January, construction contractor, Martinus Rail, will establish the site compound which will provide office space, laydown areas, staff amenities and vehicle parking.

The works will also include surveying and environmental sampling, site clearing and earthworks, and are expected to take up to eight weeks to complete. During this period, low-impact utility location activities will also be carried out along Edmondson Street, Erin Street, Macleay Street and Railway Street.

Residents can expect to see light and heavy vehicles as well as plant in the area.

Controls to minimise the impact to residents will be taken including; works only occurring during 7am and 6pm Monday to Saturday with residents being notified of any unscheduled works ahead of time, and traffic management with the establishment of a road works zone of 40km/h to ensure safe vehicle and pedestrian movement.

Malcolm Clark, Project Director S2P/A2I, said:

“The establishment of the site compound will enable contractor Martinus Rail to carry out some important early works, ahead of more significant work later in the year”.
