About Inland Rail

The Inland Rail Program is a 1600km rail infrastructure project stretching from Brisbane to Melbourne incorporating new and existing rail track. The program includes the upgrading of existing standard gauge track, the enhancement of existing standard gauge track to cater for double stacking and the construction of new standard gauge links comprising of viaducts, tunnels, rail track, crossings and bridges. About the opportunity

Join our team as a Legal Counsel – Projects, where you will play a pivotal role working under the guidance of a supportive leadership team. Your primary responsibility will be to provide expert legal services specifically focused on complex commercial construction and infrastructure contracts associated with the Inland Rail project.

In this fast paced role, you will be involved in advising, drafting, and overseeing a diverse array of commercial agreements, ensuring that they meet the highest legal standards. Your expertise will extend beyond contract law to provide valuable general commercial and corporate advice, offering crucial support to key internal stakeholders throughout QLD, NSW and VIC.

Key responsibilities include but limited to:

  •  Support the legal team in the management of systems, processes, precedents, templates and legal documents relating to the company’s contractual affair
  • Draft, review, negotiate and advise on commercial agreements with stakeholders (including works and services contracts, consultancy agreements, confidentiality undertakings, project agreements).
  • Actively contribute to and support the development and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives including the introduced Xakia system to support the delivery of the legal function for Inland Rail
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, contractors, ARTC, and external legal providers

About you

We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual who holds a current practicing certificate as a legal practitioner. With a minimum of 2-4 years of post-admission experience, including expertise in contract, commercial, construction, and/or property law acquired in a dynamic commercial law firm or in-house role, the ideal candidate brings a valuable legal knowledge to our team.

The successful candidate possesses advanced verbal and written communication skills, coupled with excellent interpersonal and negotiating abilities. With a proven track record of contributing to delivering practical commercial solutions to legal challenges, this individual demonstrates a commitment to contributing to our organisation as a collaborative team member, fostering an open and honest work environment.

Furthermore, the ideal candidate is adept at organising, developing, and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams. Their ability to interact and build robust working relationships with stakeholders and service providers is a key asset.
