The Inland Rail Program is a 1600km rail infrastructure project stretching from Brisbane to Melbourne incorporating new and existing rail track. The program includes the upgrading of existing standard gauge track, the enhancement of existing standard gauge track to cater for double stacking and the construction of new standard gauge links comprising of viaducts, tunnels, rail track, crossings and bridges. About the opportunity

The Senior Project Engineer will assist the Project Manager with the delivery of the Inland Rail Programme and nominated projects to be delivered within scheduled timeframes, within budget and in a safe manner.
This is a Brisbane based role with occasional site travel.

About the role:

  • Take a lead role in development and delivery of investigative fieldworks for the assigned works package or other packages as directed by the Project Manager of the Northern New South Wales Program.
  • Work with the design manager(s) and service providers to resolve outstanding matters and manage the development of the design.
  • Contribute to Project and Program safety requirements and initiatives, and act in a safe manner befitting the safety requirements and culture IRPL.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of Inland Rail projects in accordance with IRPL standards on time and within budget allocations
  • Liaise with stakeholders (internal/external) on various contractual, technical and delivery matters.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of detailed Project Management Plans.
  • Provide quantitative and qualitative reports regarding the status and performance of components of the Inland Rail projects including preparing various technical and evaluation reports (project performance, technical evaluations, etc.).
  • Liaise and resolve interface issues between services providers, consultants, contractors, and IRPL.
  • Assist the Project Manager in monitoring and evaluating the performance of nominated Inland Rail projects against KPI’s.
  • Assist in the preparation of contract documentation and submissions to gain approvals.
  • Assist in the administration of contracts (payment claims, variations, etc.).
  • Assist in managing financial forecasting and reports on allocated projects.
  • Undertake site inspections and liaising with engineers, consultants and contractors.
  • Attend site and meetings across the NNSW Program locations as required.
  • Undertake, from time to time, any other tasks as may be required from the Project manager and/or the NNSW Area Director.

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:-
• Degree in civil engineering or equivalent qualifications.
• Eligibility for membership of the Institute of Engineers Australia.
• Demonstrated experience in engineering, construction or project management of track, civil, structures and/or signalling.
• Knowledge of or an awareness of work health and safety principles and relevant rail safety legislation.
• Experience in the administration, management and delivery of major infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrable ability to work in an organised, well-ordered manner.
• Highly developed written and oral communication and presentation skills.
• Highly developed problem resolution and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated commercial acumen.
• Driver’s Licence – Class C

Desirable Selection Criteria:
• Project experience in a multi-disciplinary environment.
• CEng with Engineers Australia
Experience in tendering and negotiation of contracts of varying complexities.
• Sound knowledge of;
           o Railway systems.
           o Australian Standards for track infrastructure including the railway National Code of Practice.
