Narrabri to Penneys Road major track upgrade works
Throughout November 2022, our contractor Trans4m Rail will continue major track construction works within the existing rail corridor north of Narrabri and Penneys Road, Bellata. On track machines (rolling stock) will be operating as part of these works.
Work being done
Low impact activities associated with the works, such as machinery re-fueling, managing environmental controls and traffic control may occur outside of the scheduled hours.
Some temporary traffic changes at level crossing are expected as part of these works.
Residents will be notified in advance of any temporary traffic changes or out-of-hours work.
Local residents should be aware that live on-track machines, including the ballast train, will be active during these works. Please follow all traffic control signage at level crossings.
Works to be undertaken:
- Road sealing, line marking and signage installation at level crossings
- Upgrading signaling and communications equipment
- Installing signage, fencing and landscaping within the rail corridor
- Flash butt welding of rail
- Ballast placement using ballast train
- Tamping the track to design height and alignment
- Destressing of the rail under temperature control
- Surveying.
What can I expect
- Rolling stock operating on the rail lines
- Trucks and other vehicles will enter and exit the construction site via access gates along the alignment
- Changed traffic conditions will be in place at level crossings
- Construction machinery and equipment operating on site
- Delivery of materials and equipment
- Motorists should follow traffic controls and drive with caution.
Machinery used
- Hi-rail vehicles,
- rolling stock (ballast train and tamper) trucks,
- excavators,
- loaders,
- rollers and
- watercarts
will be used within the construction area.
How we’re managing impacts
- Traffic control will be in place, where required and
- water carts will be on site to wet down areas to assist in managing dust.
