No. 91: Brolgan Road, Parkes, temporary closure
We are upgrading level crossings between Parkes and Narromine as part of our work to build Inland Rail. Sometimes this requires the closure of public roads.
We’re currently upgrading the level crossing at Brolgan Road, Parkes.
This will require a 48-hour closure of Brolgan Road at the level crossing, between Coopers Road and Hartigan Avenue.
Due to inclement weather the road closure date has been moved. This means a 48-hour full road closure from 6pm Saturday 21 March to 6pm Monday 23 March 2020.
Our working hours will be from 8am Saturday 21 March 2020 until 6pm Monday 23 March 2020.
A speed reduction to 40km/h will be in place several hundred meters on either side of the current level crossing on Brolgan Road (see map) for safety of all road users, until the works is completed.
Traffic control devices will be on either end of the works, and on the detour via Coopers Road, London Road and Hartigan Avenue, during the full closure of Brolgan Road at the level crossing, to manage traffic safely.

What we’re doing

- Building road formations
- Constructing level crossing (concrete treatment)
- Installing new gravel (ballast), sleepers and rail, and then tamp (adjust) rail into place
- Installing fences and permanent signage
What to expect
- Traffic control devices including traffic lights will be implemented during the works to safely manage the traffic through the works.
- During the work there will be heavy vehicles travelling to and from the work sites.
- Light towers and machinery will be operating on a 24-hour basis during the 48-hour closure (immediately impacted residents will be contacted on an individual basis).
- We will use noise-minimising measures out of hours, such as non-tonal alarms and switching off equipment that’s not in use for extended periods.
