Support helps Toowoomba Youth Choral Society hit the high notes

In July, with support from Inland Rail’s Community Sponsorships and Donations program, the Toowoomba Youth Choral Society took to the stage with their production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

The 50-member cast spent two weeks rehearsing for two performances at the Empire Theatres in Toowoomba.

Working with the cast of 12–18-year-olds, an army of dedicated volunteers helped bring the production to life within a couple of weeks. Past and present members also helped create the set and costumes, supported rehearsals or were part of the orchestra.

Inland Rail supported the TYCS by partly funding the venue hire as part of Community Sponsorships and Donations Program.

Leona Carter, Grants Officer, said the program and the attendance of 1100 people at the two performances has gone a long way to help members grow their confidence.

“The two-week production is a fantastic experience for young performers in the region. The cast forms lifelong bonds and builds a rich appreciation for the arts.

“A highlight for the cast is getting to present their hard work to friends, family, and the local community at the Empire Theatre. The production is a huge effort and we have so many alumni come back and help which is testament to the program, Leona said.

“ARTC’s support helps ensure the arts will continue to thrive through these difficult times and offer such important experiences to the youth of the region.”

Our Community Sponsorships and Donations program offers funding between $1000–$4000 for individuals and organisations in regional areas along the Inland Rail. The funding supports organisations or individuals that contribute to local and regional prosperity, wellbeing, and sustainability.

Applications for the current round of funding close on 31 October 2022.
