Wangaratta Railway Station and Green St bridge works May 2024
Inland Rail will continue construction in and around Wangaratta Railway Station and Green Street bridge during May.
Work being done
Works on the new Green Street bridge will include removal of the western abutment with formwork and concreting for the new abutments and then installation of deflection walls adjacent to the rail track.
Construction of a crane pad will commence, in preparation for the upcoming lifting of the new bridge structure.
Station precinct works will include installation of drainage and trenching for electrical conduit and cabling. Piling and concreting for the stairs, ramp and lift shaft on the eastern side will also begin.
A pump station will be installed for the new pedestrian underpass and works will continue for the new western platform. Replacement of the existing traffic and pedestrian crossovers will take place at the station with some impacts to passengers and station access.

What can I expect?
- Noise from construction machinery and equipment operating onsite
- Trucks and other vehicles entering and exiting the work site
- Ground excavations in various locations
- Approved vegetation removal within the project area including tree removal in Roy Street West
- Changes to pedestrian access via the Docker Street footbridge are in place
- Green Street bridge closed between Norton Street and Roy Street West with detours in place
- Traffic management in and around Green Street, Cusack Street, Roy Street West, Spearing Street and Norton Street, when required which may cause minor traffic delays.
Machinery used
Heavy and light vehicles including piling rig, concrete pump trucks, trucks, cranes, dump trucks, loaders, excavators, rollers and tamping machines will be used within the work areas.
How we’re managing impacts
- Traffic management will be in place to ensure safe access for all road users and pedestrians, where required
- Environmental controls in place including live monitoring of noise, dust and vibration.
