Working with First Nations people

In August, the ARTC Inland Rail stakeholder engagement team joined First Nations engagement advisor Natalie Mogg and members of our Cultural Heritage team to meet with First Nations people in Wagga Wagga, Cootamundra and Albury.

The sessions were held to form relationships with the First Nations people in the area and discuss the Albury to Illabo and Illabo to Stockinbingal projects, with a focus on job and business opportunities and participation, training opportunities, sponsorships and donations, and health and community wellbeing.

“The community consultations were well received, and we will continue to hold information sessions as we continue our endeavours to reach the wider community,” Ms Mogg said.

The sessions follow a cultural tour in Albury held during NAIDOC Week in July, when Ruth Davys of Giilangyaldhaanygalang took members of the ARTC Inland Rail team along the Wagirra Trail and Yindyamarra Sculptural Walk along the mighty Murray River.

The team were treated to some First Nations insights of the artworks along the river walk, a lesson in language and some traditional bush tucker.
