Utilities investigations, Kemp Street, Junee 19 March – 30 April 2025
Inland Rail contractors plan to undertake utilities investigations in and around the Kemp Street footbridge ramp in Junee.
Work being done
Investigations will entail multiple boreholes within the corridor near to the Edgar Street pedestrian ramp and at the corner of Edgar and Hill streets as part of a geotechnical investigations. Samples from these holes will enable us to effectively determine future project delivery.
Geotechnical investigations will commence from Wednesday 19 March and conclude Wednesday 30 April, weather and ground conditions permitting.
Work will occur during normal construction hours of 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 6pm on Saturday.
In the event that work is required outside these construction hours, impacted neighbours will be notified in advance.
These investigations will involve potholing and other groundworks and may sometimes be noisy.
We will also keep you updated by sending regular construction updates and notifications advising of key work dates.
Planned work
Utilities and design investigations involving potholing and use of a drill rig and vacuum truck within and next to the rail corridor along Edgar Street between Kemp Street and Hill Street.
Vehicle movements
During the works, vehicle movements will be to and from the corridor as well inside the corridor to facilitate potholing.
Traffic controllers will be available to direct traffic to and from site where needed.
What can I expect?
- Unfortunately, some construction activities are inherently noisy which cannot be avoided. Properties near the construction site can expect to hear:
- heavy vehicle movements and potholing
- excavation (activity involving the removal of existing surfaces such as rock, soil, pavement, and other substances)
- loading, unloading or moving equipment and construction materials.
- Roads may be under traffic control during these works
Machinery used
Equipment used for work includes but is not limited to mobile drill rig, watercart, hand tools, vacuum trucks heavy and light vehicles and other minor plant.
How we're managing impacts
- Traffic controls will be in place, where required
- Water carts will be on-site to wet down areas to assist in managing dust
- Works programmed to best minimise noise impacts. We will aim to minimise noise from the works.
- Works will be monitored to ensure compliance with Project Approval Conditions
- Use of non-tonal reversing alarms on all equipment and turning off equipment when not in use
- Instructing workers to keep noise to a minimum and being respectful of our neighbours.
