Fifteen residents from the Peak Crossing area attended a sausage sizzle on the weekend to have direct input into the Inland Rail project at a community wellbeing workshop.
Residents who attended the informal event at the Uniting Church Hall were asked for their ideas on initiatives for the local community.
Ideas put forward by those attending included planting more vegetation to improve visual amenity of railway line; the provision of specific koala and wildlife corridors; the sponsorship of an annual event in Peak Crossing; upgrading key roads and upgrades to the Ipswich-Boonah Trail.
Inland Rail C2K Project Manager Don Piggott-McKellar said every community is different and has different needs and Inland Rail was out on the ground having these conversations to get the best outcomes possible.
“We had some great conversations with those who attended,” Mr Piggott-McKellar said.
“We discussed level crossings, noise impacts, road connectivity and how residents use those roads currently as well as where Inland Rail would source water from during construction.
“This type of open conversation is why we are engaging with groups at events like the one at Peak Crossing.
“We want to capture local knowledge ahead of construction and use it to build the best line we can,” he said.
