Inland Rail installs new girders for Cassidy footbridge

Inland Rail has reached another major milestone on the Albury to Illabo section with the successful installation of the first girders for the new Cassidy footbridge in Wagga Wagga.

The successful girder installation is a significant step in the construction of the new footbridge, which is being built to improve accessibility and safety for pedestrians while providing the required clearance for the upgraded rail corridor.

Additional works, including installation of the bridge ramps and stairs, will also be undertaken as construction progresses.

When completed next year, the new Cassidy footbridge will be higher and will include accessible ramps, anti-throw screens and handrails.

Following the closure of the original footbridge, Inland Rail opened a temporary pedestrian bridge linking Cassidy Parade and Fox Street to maintain community access during construction.

Traffic management measures will be in place during the works and minor delays may occur in the Cassidy Parade area.

An Inland Rail spokesperson said:

“The successful installation of the first bridge girders is an important milestone and another visible sign of progress on the new Cassidy footbridge.

“The community has been patient while construction has been underway, and we thank residents for their continued support as we work towards opening the new bridge next year.”
