Artwork returned to Wangaratta community

Community artwork has been saved as part of the Inland Rail works at Wangaratta Railway Station.

To make way for the new pedestrian underpass, which will provide improved safe and accessible access across the station, a mural made up of 18 large painted artworks had to be removed.

The mural was a community project commemorating the 2000 Sydney Olympics and has been displayed along the station’s lower platform for more than two decades.

The panels were removed by ARTC Inland Rail construction partner McConnell Dowell and handed back to the local community.

Wangaratta Rail Action Group member and founder David Maroney is hoping the artworks can be restored by local students and placed on community display in the future.
