Border to Gowrie project update December 2022
As Christmas fast approaches, we’d like to wish you and yours a safe and restful festive season. Thank you sincerely for your ongoing involvement and feedback on the Inland Rail project, we’re looking forward to working with you in 2023.
December 13, 2022
Over the last month, we have been visiting communities at drop-in sessions and other local events to talk about the project and answer your questions. We’ve also been busy preparing additional information for the revised draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
Christmas office hours
Our Toowoomba and Goondiwindi offices will be closed from 12 noon Friday 23 December 2022 to Tuesday 2 January 2022. For enquiries during this time, please call 1800 732 761.
Out and about
We’ve enjoyed being part of several fantastic community events over the last month including the Inglewood Christmas Movie night hosted by the Inglewood Police, the Gowrie Night Markets and most recently, the Pittsworth Postle Gift.
Little and big kids alike decorated fantastic Christmas creations at our art and craft table at the Inglewood Christmas Movie night. Thanks for having us along, Inglewood!
We look forward to continuing our drop-in sessions in the New Year and are busy planning our events calendar for 2023.
What’s happening in the field?
Geotechnical investigations
Our design and construction partner for the Northern Civil Works program, BHQ JV, started geotechnical investigations along the project alignment in late November. They will pause investigations for the Christmas period on Friday 23 December and recommence early in the New Year.
The investigations include borehole drilling, test pits, core penetration testing and seismic refraction testing between Whetstone and Gowrie.
Data from these activities will help validate and enhance the existing reference design for this section of Inland Rail.
Keep an eye out for the BHQ JV team as they carry out these surveys.
Upcoming field investigations
Other ongoing field investigations include quarry and borrow pit investigations, cultural heritage surveys, river depth and hydrology surveys, and groundwater monitoring.
Visit our website to see all current and upcoming field investigations.
EIS status
The NSW/Queensland Border to Gowrie project remains in the approvals stage as we prepare additional information to support the project’s revised draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
The revised draft EIS will be subject to a period of public consultation following submission and acceptance by the Coordinator General (CG). Timing for additional consultation will be determined by the CG in due course.
Find out more by visiting the CG’s website.
