The new bridge allows sufficient clearance for double-stacked freight trains and improves vehicle and pedestrian safety with a separate shared user path.

Construction started in February 2023, with the new bridge opening in March 2024.

Inland Rail is delivering modern infrastructure and will leave a positive legacy for regional communities.

Rural City of Wangaratta Mayor Dean Rees acknowledges the benefits of the project including creating local jobs and driving economic activity.

“We’ve been very fortunate to have Inland Rail come through Wangaratta (and Glenrowan) and improve some of the infrastructure that the rural city just can’t afford to do on our own,” Cr Rees said.
