Victorian students take part in SMART science fun

Students from Wangaratta and Glenrowan were given a glimpse into the exciting future career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and maths fields after taking part in interactive science shows led by a specialist team from the University of Newcastle.

More than 450 students from Glenrowan Primary School, St Bernards Primary School and Cathedral College in Wangaratta, took part in the Science, Mathematics and Real Technology (SMART) tours recently.

The SMART tours were made possible by the Inland Rail Skills Academy and provide regional students along the Inland Rail alignment with an opportunity to take part in scientific experiments.

Students investigated the effects of common contact and non-contact forces including gravity, air-resistance, and magnetism. They also learnt about ‘spin forces’ and rocket science.

Schools who host or attend SMART Science Shows receive a Unit of Work of fun and hands-on activities exploring forces to implement in their classroom.
