Consultation on the level in Calvert to Kagaru Inland Rail section

The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) has worked closely with the local community and other key stakeholders to find new engineering solutions on the reference design for the Calvert to Kagaru (C2K) section of Inland Rail.

Changes have resulted in seven level crossings being removed from the section, leaving only one level crossing in the entire C2K section, an outcome that has been well received in the local community.

Intersections with Middle Road in Peak Crossing, Washpool Road in Washpool and Wild Pig Creek Road in Kagaru will now have bridge crossings allowing the free flow of traffic.

Hayes Road in Lanefield, M Hines Road in Ebenezer and Glencairn Road, Purga will have alternate access roads and Dwyers Road in Washpool will have a rail bridge over the road.

ARTC is running further community consultation sessions November 23, 24 and 29 and we encourage all interested to attend.

For further information on these events or the interactive map please visit the C2K section.

ARTC Inland Rail Public-Private Partnership Director Tony Lubofsky said:

“We are always listening to feedback from the community, since 2017 our team has undertaken extensive engagement with landowners and other stakeholders on the project.

“There has also been feedback through the Senate Inquiry and formal submissions to the Queensland Coordinator-General through the Environmental Impact Statement Process.

“One of the common pieces of feedback has been around reducing level crossings wherever possible.

“The project team has identified the opportunity to remove seven of the eight level crossings, where a feasible alternative could be identified, in the Calvert to Kagaru project.

“We will now be going back to update these communities about the latest changes, and I would like to thank everyone for their input so far and ask them to keep engaging with us across all our channels.

“Our interactive Social Pinpoint map will be updated in the coming weeks to reflect the changes and allow users to view visualisations of proposed designs as well as interact with our team quickly and easily.

“Community engagement has been essential in our efforts to get the best results we can for our local communities.”
