Exhibition showcases works of First Nations artist, Margaret Adams
Through Inland Rail’s Sponsorship and Donations program, Bank Art Museum Moree (BAMM) has exhibited a significant retrospective on the life and career of nationally and internationally renowned Moree Gomeroi artist Margaret Adams, who passed away in June 2021.

The exhibition opened in mid-October 2022 to a bustling gallery of locals and visitors to Moree. In attendance was the Chief Executive of Parliamentary Services NSW, Mark Webb, along with Wes Stowe, Collections and Heritage Coordinator, Department of Parliamentary Services NSW.
Across a six-week period, art lovers viewed more than 100 artworks spanning Margaret ‘Aunty Marg’ Adams’ 40-year career. Some artworks even managed to escape the gallery!
An innovative promotional campaign reproduced cropped details from the artist’s work onto large street stickers that were strategically placed in key locations around Moree, adding a vibrant display of the artist’s works to the community.
The campaign was also integral to a school engagement initiative called the Meei Street Art Project, which saw local youth from Moree East involved in a mentoring program led by BAMM’s Arts Education Coordinator, Julia Minors.
“The support BAMM received from Inland Rail was greatly appreciated. It assisted in producing an exhibition that celebrated the life and career of this well-respected artist and Elder and offered opportunities for locals, our youth in particular, to engage in a community project,” remarked Ms Minors.
A well-respected community member and elder, Aunty Marg was also a founding artist of Yurundiali Aboriginal Corporation, which operated on the grounds of BAMM in the late 1980s and was a finalist in the Parliament of NSW Indigenous Art Prize in 2005. Her works have featured in many local, national and international exhibitions and countless artworks have been cared for in the homes and businesses of Moree residents.
