Improving safety is a step in the right direction

Rebuilding the stairs at the Benalla Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club has taken a step in a safer direction, thanks to an Inland Rail Community Sponsorships and Donations grant.

Club life member Vince Branigan is please these old unsafe steps have been replaced

Club life member Vince Branigan said the front stairs were old, unsafe and an eyesore.

“Improving the club house steps has significantly improved safety for our club members,” Mr Branigan said.

He said safety was important to the club, which was first formed in 1899 and moved to its present site in 1934.

“I have been with the club for more than 30 years and the steps have not been upgraded in that time,” Mr Branigan said.

“We have an active lawn tennis and croquet club and some of our members are older, so the new steps will make it easier and safer for people using our facilities.”

Mr Branigan said the work had made a huge difference to the club.

“We are really grateful for the local support we have received, including the help from Inland Rail.”
