Installation works at Mothers Bridge, Wagga Wagga

Inland Rail will install the bridge span and main deck of the new Mothers Bridge in Wagga Wagga on Thursday 23 July 2026, marking a major milestone in the project.

The installation marks a significant milestone in the delivery of the new pedestrian bridge, which will provide improved accessibility, safety and connectivity for the local Wagga Wagga community.

To safely install the bridge span, access to Mothers Bridge will be restricted from 4.30pm for up to one hour.

Dedicated hail-and-ride bus services will operate between Wagga Wagga Railway Station and Railway Street, Turvey Park during the temporary bridge closure.

Residents and motorists are encouraged to follow all traffic management measures and signage around the work area (see map below).

The upgraded bridge will be higher than the existing structure and will feature more accessible pedestrian ramps, anti-throw screens and upgraded handrails, enhancing safety and usability for all.

“We thank residents for their patience while these works are carried out.

“Safety remains our highest priority, and we encourage everyone to follow all signage and traffic management directions during the works.”

Gavin Murphy, General Manager – Major Projects, Martinus, said:

“This installation is the result of extensive planning, collaboration and a shared commitment to safety across every organisation involved. By working closely with Inland Rail, our delivery partners and key stakeholders, we’ve been able to carefully coordinate a complex lift that prioritises the safety of our workforce, rail operations and the Wagga Wagga community.”
