The Inland Rail Program is a 1600km rail infrastructure project stretching from Brisbane to Melbourne incorporating new and existing rail track. The program includes the upgrading of existing standard gauge track, the enhancement of existing standard gauge track to cater for double stacking and the construction of new standard gauge links comprising of viaducts, tunnels, rail track, crossings and bridges. About the opportunity

As the Senior Environment Advisor, you will oversee the successful implementation of the Inland Rail Program Environmental Regulatory and Compliance Principles to ensure oversight and governance of environmental compliance across all Inland Rail projects. This role is a two-year fixed term contract.

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Support the Principal Environmental Advisor with development and implementation of compliance, EMS and audit schedule.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders across the Inland Rail Program.
  • Establishment of relationships with external stakeholders regarding a variety of subject matters and consultants to facilitate and create structured environmental compliance assessments, management plans, strategies, policies and procedures for the Inland Rail project as required.
  • Critically review approval documentation to ensure compliance is met with the relevant environmental legislation, environmental approvals and permits.
  • Prepare and contribute technical advice for the assessment of environmental compliance frameworks and development of compliance planning and environmental management strategies, documents, plan and procedures across the program.
  • Facilitate the integration of planning and environmental data within the GIS information management platform and provide advice and strategies for the securing of environmental and planning statutory licenses and approvals.

About you

To be successful in this role you should be detail-oriented, proactive, and knowledgeable in environmental regulations and compliance preferably within the infrastructure sector. You will have good personal skills with the ability to foster relationships with stakeholders and have a collaborative working style to navigate through complex approvals and regulatory challenges.

To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or an environmentally related discipline.
  • Construction Environment experience in QLD and NSW
  • Proficient knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements to inform best practice and value management outcomes.
  • Knowledge of emerging trends, key benchmarks and statutory and regulatory requirements to inform best practice environmental management outcomes.
  • Individual organisation, written communication skills and project management skills.
  • Strong literacy with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and customised software packages.
  • Ability to work autonomously.

Desirable Selection Criteria

  • NSW experience of State Significant Infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with Environment Management for approvals under the EPBC act. 
  • Post graduate qualifications in Environmental Science or an environmentally related discipline.
  • Relevant experience in the transport and logistics industry, infrastructure or utilities industry.
  • Knowledge of Geospatial Information System processes and outputs
