The Inland Rail Program is a 1600km rail infrastructure project stretching from Brisbane to Melbourne incorporating new and existing rail track. The program includes the upgrading of existing standard gauge track, the enhancement of existing standard gauge track to cater for double stacking and the construction of new standard gauge links comprising of viaducts, tunnels, rail track, crossings and bridges. About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Senior Internal Communications Specialist role is pivotal in implementing internal communication strategies that aligns with Inland Rail’s Strategic Plan.

 Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Manage effective communication of initiatives and activities in line with the Program’s strategic objectives.
  • Deliver and embed IRPL’s Strategic Plan across the Program with all employees – ensuring alignment around Vision, Purpose, Values and Strategic Pillars
  • Provide communications advice, expertise and support to the CEO, Executive Leadership Team and the Program Leadership Team
  • Provide insight and analysis of all internal communications channels and work with internal stakeholders to refine, develop and improve performance
  • Ensure consistency of branding, key messaging and tone across Program-wide and state-specific collateral, and provide advice regarding Program-specific communication, where relevant
  • Provide support for the management of the ongoing refinement, updating and embedding of Program-wide positioning themes and key messages to ensure consistent and effective change communications


About you 

To be successful in this role you will need to be an excellent communicator with relationship-building skills and the ability to manage diverse stakeholders. You will need to be adaptable, a strategic thinker who solve problems proactively while balancing competing interests with diplomacy and empathy.

Additionally, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven skills in the delivery of high-quality internal communications services in a technical environment – preferably in a large project environment.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (Communications) and/or proven experience in public relations or corporate internal communication role.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication with an aptitude for accurate editing of long-form reports and technical documentation as required.
  • Strong understanding of current internal and external channels, strategies and best practice.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and maintaining online communication tools including Program Portal (intranet), Monday.com (workflow management system), Shorthand (Portal stories), Canva (internal event and email design), e-newsletters, websites, and the use of social collaboration tools.
  • Experience in the delivery of superior customer service – acting as an in-house consultant with responsibility to deliver a range of projects on time and on budget for (at times) competing internal clients.
