McConnell Dowell stick their neck out to help a turtle

During construction of Inland Rail, we keep an eye out for creatures big and small. Our construction partner McConnell Dowell recently came across a turtle tucked between the broad-gauge tracks, while working in the rail corridor at Seymour.

Workers relocated the reptile, believed to be an eastern long neck turtle, to the safety of a nearby creek.

At turtle’s pace, getting up the steep embankments of the track must have been no small feat.

McConnell Dowell are always seeking to minimise impacts during their work, and use fauna handlers to relocate wildlife prior to and during construction.
