New mobile phone tower for North Star

Better mobile reception and coverage for Inland Rail alignment communities between Moree and North Star is one step closer with the construction of a new mobile base station tower in North Star completed in March.

This means landowners and workers in the area should experience improved or new 4G coverage once the new station comes online in around June.

The new North Star base station is one of four new or upgraded mobile telecommunication assets being delivered as part of a $3.4 million project with Telstra. The towers will also provide the required 4G coverage for trains running on the upgraded section of Inland Rail track.

Work on the three other sites, including a new base station in Crooble, a new ‘small cell’ base station in Croppa Creek and an existing base station in Gurley, is also progressing well.

As the mobile telecommunications enhancements are rolled out, Telstra will manage the ongoing operations and maintenance once the infrastructure has been delivered.
