No. 103: Commissioning of the Parkes to Narromine railway line
The commissioning of the railway line requires testing of the rail signals near level crossings and inside signalling huts, over eleven days and nights.
This requires for the bells, lights and boom gates to be tested at level crossings across Parkes.
The level crossing at London Road/Blaxland Road will be temporarily closed for the duration of the testing (see detour map over the page), all other level crossings will remain open. The roads that are open during testing will have traffic control in place to assist road users and short delays maybe experienced.
Timing and location of works
Out of hours signal works:
- 6am Friday 11 September 2020 until 10am Monday 21 September 2020
- Level crossings being tested are at; Brolgan Road, Henry Parkes Way, Back Trundle Road, London Road (level crossing closed), Newell Highway, East Street and Nash Street, Parkes

What we’re doing

- Testing the bells, lights and boom gates at level crossings
- Testing signals from within the signalling huts
- Using handheld power tools, generators and lighting towers
What to expect
- You may experience short delays at level crossings while the testing is undertaken
- Traffic control during the work to safely manage the traffic at the level crossings
- During the work there will be light vehicles travelling to and from the level crossings and signalling huts
- Lighting towers and handheld tools will be in use during the works
Once rail has been installed in each section, the rail will be ‘live’ and construction trains will be intermittently passing across the level crossing. For your continued safety, please ensure you obey all signage at level crossings.
