Rail industry comes together to improve Albury to Illabo operational noise model
Inland Rail has listened to community feedback and collected more real-life data to support the Albury to Illabo project operational noise model.
December 13, 2024
Operational noise emissions are influenced by many factors including the speed of the train and locomotive notch settings. Inland Rail reached out to Pacific National who provided data from their locomotives currently travelling on the Albury to Illabo section to further inform the Inland Rail noise model. The Pacific National data showed the speed the train was travelling and the notch setting of the locomotive. This information will be used in the noise model to enhance noise level predictions at properties from current operations and when Inland Rail trains commence operations.
In addition, Inland Rail has undertaken additional noise monitoring at various locations along the alignment, including at the Wagga Wagga viaduct. Vibration monitoring to inform operational predictions has been conducted at properties close to the alignment. All of this data will be incorporated into the updated noise model in the Operational Noise and Vibration Review (ONVR).
Community engagement on the ONVR and proposed operational noise mitigation is scheduled to begin in mid-2025.
