Murray Valley Highway works Barnawartha North
From 21 to 25 September, McConnell Dowell will continue undertaking construction works for the Inland Rail project near Murray Valley Highway, Barnawartha North.
Work being done
This will involve lowering a 400 metre section of the rail track under the Murray Valley Highway road overpass by up to 1.4 metres to enable sufficient clearance for double-stacked freight trains.
Works will include removal of the existing rail, ground excavation and reinstalling ballast rock, concrete sleepers and rail to rebuild the track.
Further drainage installation around the rail corridor will also be undertaken, and construction of a levee bank to assist with ground water management in the area.
What can I expect?
- construction noise throughout the day and night with mitigation measures in place
- ground excavation at various locations
- trucks and other vehicles entering and exiting the construction site, may cause minor traffic delays
- heavy machinery and equipment operating onsite
- delivery of materials and equipment by road and rail
- use of generators and light towers during night works. These will be directed away from residential properties.

How we’re managing impacts
- water carts onsite to wet down areas to assist in managing dust
- traffic management in place to ensure safe access for all road users where required
- environmental controls in place including live monitoring of noise, dust and vibration
- directing light towers away from residential properties.
