Major step forward for Albury Station footbridge

The construction of the new footbridge at Albury Station has taken a major step forward with the successful delivery of the steel components for the pier frames and columns of the footbridge to the works site, ready for installation in the coming days.

The steel components have been delivered from the Hunter region of NSW using an oversized, over-mass vehicle.

The delivery of the oversized load took place between 5am and 7am to the work site to ensure that local traffic was not impacted by the delivery.

The new bridge is required to allow sufficient clearance for double-stacked freight trains to pass and is part of the works for the Inland Rail Albury to Illabo section, and includes improved accessibility and connectivity, a dedicated mid-point rest area, and anti-throw screens.

Inland Rail is aiming to have the new footbridge operational by mid-2027.

Inland Rail Chief Executive Officer Sean Sweeney said:

“We are delighted that we have taken another important step forward on the delivery of the new footbridge at Albury Station, we know that the local community will be excited to see this progress.

“We look forward to successfully installing these parts of the new footbridge over the coming days and to bringing this important piece of local infrastructure further towards its successful delivery.”
