Inland Rail makes strong progress on Albury Station footbridge

Inland Rail has taken a major step forward in the delivery of the new footbridge at Albury Station with the successful installation of the pier frames and columns for the access ramps of the new footbridge over the last week by our contractor partner Martinus.

The pier frames installed range from one metre to four metres in height and weigh from 1 tonne to 8 tonne. Each of the access ramps are 26 metres long and weighing 12 tonnes.

With the pier frames and columns for the access ramps now installed, our future works on the new footbridge will include the installation of the new bridge span over the existing rail tracks, as well as works below completing rail signalling and track-related alterations.

The new bridge is required to allow sufficient clearance for double-stacked freight trains to pass and is part of the works for the Inland Rail Albury to Illabo section and includes improved accessibility and connectivity on both the station and highway sides as well as a dedicated mid-point rest area and anti-throw screens.

Inland Rail is aiming to have the new footbridge operational by mid-2027.

Inland Rail Chief Executive Officer Sean Sweeney said:

“We are delighted that we have taken another important step forward on the delivery of the new footbridge at Albury Station, we know that the local community will be excited to see this progress.

“We look forward to bringing this important piece of local infrastructure further towards its successful delivery.”
