Albury
Inland Rail is a 1600km freight rail line connecting Melbourne and Brisbane that will transform how goods are moved around Australia.
In Southern NSW we’re upgrading 185km of existing rail track between Albury and Illabo at 24 sites, including six within the Albury LGA, to allow double-stacked freight trains to pass safely and ensure everyday products can be delivered faster and more reliably.
Albury Station precinct
Albury Station footbridge
The Albury Station footbridge will be replaced to ensure vertical clearance for double-stacked freight trains and will be designed to meet disability access needs at both ends, including beyond the highway, as requested by Albury City Council.
Albury Yard
Within the Albury Yard tracks slews will be required. However, any rail works proposed will ensure heritage values are maintained considering the Railway Station precinct’s State significance and homage to preserved broad gauge infrastructure.
Murray River bridge
We will raise the sway braces attached to the top chord of the truss to allow for the vertical clearance required for double-stacked freight trains along the alignment. We recognise the heritage significance of the Murray River bridge, and we are working with the appropriate stakeholders to ensure the new design and framework of the bracing is appropriate to the existing fabric and style of the bridge.
Riverina Highway bridge
We will lower a length of approximately 230m of the existing track to a maximum depth of 1m and improve the stormwater drainage infrastructure.
Works commenced at the Riverina Highway during the September 2025 track possession with the installation of new drainage pipes below the future dive site and re-routing conduits for signalling and communication cables.
Billy Hughes bridge

We will lower approximately 300m of the existing track to a maximum depth of 1.4m.
Table Top yard

The Main Line will be slewed to allow for horizontal clearance for double-stacked trains.
