Wangaratta Railway Station: fire hydrant relocation works, 23 July to 16 August 2024

Temporary changes to pedestrian and vehicle access at Wangaratta Station are required between 23 July and 16 August 2024, while works are undertaken to move fire hydrant services located under the car park surface.

Work being done

McConnell Dowell will undertake works that require temporary changes to pedestrian and vehicle access at Wangaratta Station between 23 July and 16 August 2024.

These changes are required while works are undertaken to relocate fire hydrant services, located under the car park surface.

Access changes

V/Line staff will be onsite to direct passengers during this time and trains will continue as per the V/Line timetable.

  • Cars:
    • Between 23-26 July, the station car park will be closed to vehicles.
    • The car park will reopen on 27 July with a reduced number of car parks available.
  • Pedestrians:
    • Pedestrians will access the station from the Norton Street entrance.
    • Pedestrian pathways within the car park will be closed.
  • Bus passengers:
    • Temporary bus drop-off and pick-up locations will be in place in Norton Street.
  • Cyclists:
    • Access to the bike shed will be unavailable while these works are carried out.

What can I expect?

  • Construction work 7am-7pm Monday to Saturday.
  • Temporary fencing and traffic management in place to ensure safe access for pedestrians and motorists in and around the station precinct
  • Some Norton Street parking bays closed off for temporary bus parking zones between 23-26 July
  • Station car park closed 23-26 July, reopening 27 July with a reduced number of car parks available until 16 August
  • Station vehicle access via the southern end only, with traffic management in place. Mobility car parks will be accessible
  • Noise from construction machinery and equipment operating onsite
  • Trucks and other vehicles entering and exiting the work site
  • Ground excavations in various locations
  • Approved vegetation removal within the project area.

Machinery used

Heavy and light vehicles including excavators and attachments, light towers, drill rigs, drill rig truck, saw cutter, delivery trucks, crane and tool trucks will be used within the work areas.

How we’re managing impacts

  • VMS boards and traffic management in place to ensure safe access for all road users and pedestrians, where required
  • Environmental controls in place including live monitoring of noise, dust and vibration.
